When Things Go Wrong: Intoxicating Hemp and Synthetic Cannabinoids – Insights into Lab Testing

The GMP Collective kicked off 2024 with a fresh webinar episode of When Things Go Wrong by dissecting the nuances between hemp-derived and synthetic cannabinoids including THCa, THCP, Delta-8, Delta-9, and more. If you didn’t get a chance to attend the webinar, watch it on our YouTube channel.

In this episode, host Bethany Moore, along with experts David Vaillencourt of The GMP Collective, Jeffrey Williams of Cayman Chemical, and Chris Hudalla of ProVerde Labs, dissected the nuances between hemp-derived and synthetic cannabinoids including THCa, THCP, Delta-8, Delta-9, and more.

Intoxicating hemp and synthetic cannabinoids have permeated the cannabis market, but there are not many regulatory requirements for production and product testing. The disparity in quality and safety between cannabinoid-containing products found in state-legal dispensaries and those available in gas stations or smoke shops is significant and concerning. Moreover, there’s a general lack of awareness among lawmakers about the intricacies of laboratory testing and the distinctions between natural and synthetic cannabinoids.

We’re so grateful for the thoughtful questions submitted by the audience for this episode, which was our biggest turnout yet with nearly 250 attendees!

The webinar experts have provided written responses to the registration questions and Q&A questions that were not addressed during the 1-hour broadcast. You can read their responses here.

The webinar was also highlighted in Cannabis Science and Technology in an article titled ‘Safeguarding Consumers in the Era of Intoxicating Hemp and Synthetic Cannabinoids: A GMP Collective Webinar.
